Players,

During a recent change in cell phones I have lost everything in my contact list. Please text me so that I can rebuild my lists. Looking forward to reconnecting soon.

Merry Christmas

All,

I trust you all have had a Merry Christmas with family and friends. The time with family has been of great benefit (as well as watching bowl games). Please take the time to enjoy your family during the break. The second semester push will get here quick enough.

equipment turn in

We will have an additional date for players who did not turn in equipment on the required date to have one more opportunity. Coach Pugh will meet all players who have additional equipment issues on Tuesday at 3:30 in the equipment room. Players should turn in all uniforms (clean and folded), helmet, shoulder pads, practice pants, and any additional padding that was school issued.

Thank you for your help in getting us this equipment returned so that our inventory of items will be correct.

post season

All,

I love our team and this season has been incredibly special on many levels. Now that the season is over, we must begin planning for the off season. On Monday we will meet with players from 3:00 - 6:00. We plan to accomplish the following:

Collect all uniforms, equipment, and travel bags. All uniforms should be laundered appropriately and ready to be inventoried and stored (players were also informed tonight). We will also be cleaning up our equipment (sleds and such) and storing those items away as directed by the athletic department. We will conclude our time together by voting for the various post season awards.

By weeks end we will have the award program planned and will let you know. If any families want to help in the planning of our banquet, please contact me.

Again, it has been an honor to coach this team. I regret that it has come to such a quick ending but I will always be able to reflect upon the many fond memories of this team.

Blessings,

RQ

Choir and football practice

I realize there was some confusion over the choir obligation this morning. As the head football coach, I was told by the fine arts director that this outing was not mandatory and Mr. Hummel also stated "No biggie on the football guys this morning. They didn't tell me that they had practice. I would have let them out of their obligation if I would have known there was a conflict". Our coaching staff clearly explained to players last night that they would receive a grade penalty for missing this am, and should come to practice and then go to their assignment with the Indy Marathon.

In the future, when there are multiple obligations, players should make certain they have discussed this with coaches and we have a full understanding of the situation so that we can help them out.

Go Big Blue,

Sectional!

The time is here! The playoff run for 2010 started this am. The boys have responded to last nights loss in a very positive way. We enjoyed a great time today in stretch, run, and lifting. In each of the phases the players showed that they have tremendous heart and are looking forward to getting on the winning path again this week.

We found many positive items in which to build for the week. Many younger players stepped up and gave us some much needed substitutions and each of them responded to their opportunity very positively.

Friday will be here before you know it and the Shenandoah atmosphere will be electric. Please come out and get a preview of the Shenandoah football team and support our JV/Freshman team as they play the Raiders on Monday night. Thanks for your continued support.

Recruiting forum

All,

Heritage is hosting an informational recruiting night on Monday, October 25 at 6:30 in the Cafetorium. We would really love to have a large turn out for this event which will offer invaluable details about the entire recruiting process. Charlie Adams, award winning sportscaster with 16 years experience covering the Big 10, Notre Dame and College Sports will be speaking.

ANY STUDENT ATHLETE (not just seniors) interested in playing sports at the collegiate level (and their parents) are welcome and should attend.

Game time for JV-Freshman Ritter

All,

The game time for the JV/Freshman game tonight is 6:00. There will be a 6:00 start with the combined freshman/jv game with 2 quarters of freshman only to follow. Most if not all freshman will be participating in the JV game as well.

Go Big Blue, RQ

Sectionals and Ritter

All,

Sectionals are right around the corner and we will be playing at Shenandoah in the first round. Game time will be 7:00. The second round game will be vs. Union County who drew a bye. The bye team must travel. So if things go the Eagles way, we would host round two. However, first things first...we play Ritter this week at Marian University. Looking forward to an exciting game.

JV - Freshman Games next week

All,

Our Freshman game with Scecina has been cancelled as we will moving all freshman up to play vs. the Shenendoah JV team next Monday night. The game will be here at HCS starting at 6:00.

Go Big Blue,

Coach Q

Ritter game tonight - JV - Freshman

All,

In case this did not get communicated please make sure everyone understands the game situation for tonight. We do not have enough players to play a full JV game and a full freshman games at separate venues. An agreement has been reached with Ritter to play a four quarter JV Game and a two quarter freshman game, both here at HCS. Freshman players will be participating in the JV game as well. We need to do this to be able to get all of the JV and Freshman players adequate playing time.

Thank you for your flexibility with our scheduling. Due to injuries at the lower level, and some younger players being moved to varsity, our number of players are reduced. We want our guys to be able to get as many game type snaps as possible and playing a full JV and partial freshman is the best opportunity for our program.

Senior Night

Parents of Seniors:

Please make sure to be at the game no later than 6:30 to line up for the introduction of Senior players. You are to be at the center gate between the bleachers at 6:30 as the introductions will begin at 6:40.

Prior to the game we invite you to be on the field with us during our warm up. Please feel free to bring a camera and snap pictures as this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for you to be on the field with your son as he plays his last regular season game at HCS.

After you are introduced, we invite all of you to walk with us to the locker room for our pregame prayer. After we pray the players will go back to the field and you can return to your seat to enjoy the game.

This is a special night and we look forward to seeing all of you with us tomorrow night. If, for some reason, you cannot make this event, please let me know so that I can communicate with the Public Address Announcer to remove your name from the introductions.

Cathedral Game Cancelled

All,

Our schedule for this next week has been changed. In the past few weeks it has become increasing difficult to have both a JV and Freshman team. This week we are cancelling the Freshman game with Cathedral. As I am sure you could understand, this was a difficult decision for our coaching staff as we want to play as many games as possible. However, in the best interest of our program at this time we felt this was the best decision.

We will be combining our JV and Freshman team to play the Varsity Home School Lions. This game will be a tremendous challenge for our team so we encourage you to come out and support the Eagles.

We are evaluating the remainder of the season as well to determine the best avenue for the remainder of the games. Thank you for your continued support of our football program.

Fall Break Practice/Game

All,

As we gear up for fall break (wow, is that already here) I wanted to make certain that we are all on the same page in regard to practices and expectations. Fall Break begins on Thursday for students. Teachers (and Principals) will be at school attending an in-service. Therefore our practice times for Thursday are as follows:

3:00 - 4:30 on the field (Soccer sectionals to follow so we must be timely)
4:45 - Devotions
5:00 - Dinner
5:30 - Players ready to go home

Friday vs. Park Tudor
At school at 4:00

Saturday am
9:00 - 10:30

All players (Freshman - Seniors) are expected to attend all practices. We will have Freshman/JV games the following week vs. Ritter and want to make sure our teams continue the ability to tune up on Thursday and Saturday's for the following weeks contests.

Friday-Connersville

All,

We are ready for another exciting Friday night. This week, as you know, we are traveling to Connersville. The bus will be leaving HCS at 3:45 so players will need to hustle after school to get their bags packed and ready to leave.
Considering the long distance and the lateness of our return, we will not be taking all freshman on this trip. We do need to take some freshman with us as we have had some injuries, illness, and situations this week with the varsity that may lead us to needing a few of the freshman to be available in substitute roles. The following Freshman will be traveling with the team: McKenzie, McCarthy, Pounds, Bryant, Williams, Marsh, and Christiansen. Any Freshman who may want to travel home with their parents are certainly welcomed to do so as they will have a short nights sleep before returning for the freshman game on Saturday.
We look forward to continuing the win steak and ministering to the Spartans.

Go Big Blue, Coach Q

devotions

All,

I have really enjoyed the devotions this week with our team. Our topic has been centered about total commitment to Jesus Christ and "dying to self". Are we really totally sold out for Jesus Christ in every area of our life.

This team is unique and I am blessed to be a part of the ministry.

Thursday Colts game

All,

As you might remember our team has been blessed by Mike Peduto of Circle City Tickets and Bob Jones of Great Seats Co. Through the generosity of these two men, we will be attending the Colts vs. Bengals game for free this Thursday night. The players will still have our devotion time after practice and a quick bag dinner to eat before taking off. The game is a 7:00 start time and we want to be in our seats prior to kickoff. Our intent is to leave at half time (approximately 9:00) to allow players to get home and get some rest for school the next day. We are still arranging transportation but details will be forthcoming on that as well.
Players DO NOT HAVE TO GO. This is not a required trip and if players have homework or tests that need to be a priority, then they should not attend the game. We will be asking players to tell us on Tuesday if they plan to attend so that we can make our plans certain.
We plan to wear our Blue Game jerseys and Khakis to the Colts game. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Go Big Blue (HCS and Colts!) Coach Q

2-0!

What a great start to the season! The players have truly responded and we are blessed to have experienced minimal injury. Our senior leadership has been a key as our team is never seemingly too high or too low and is able to overcome on the field adversity. Thank you for the support of our team and we look forward to a wonderful ministry week vs. Edinburgh.

Practice times

All,

Our practice times for this week (and most weeks) is as follows:

Monday - 3:30 - 6:30 - This includes any film time that our players might need
Tuesday - 3:30 - 6:00
Wednesday - 3:30 - 6:00
Thursday - 3:30 - 6:15 - This includes our devotion time and team meal
Friday - Game at Elwood - All players stay after school and be ready to depart - game time 7:00
Saturday am - 9:00 - 10:30

Of course on days when a JV or Freshman team has a game this schedule might be altered. but for all Varsity practices this should be our schedule for the season.

Thoughts on GC

All,

Last night was certainly interesting as the weather assisted in an odd night. However, I was truly proud of the effort of our team and the way they continued to improve during the night. Equally impressive was the work by our coaching staff in coaching our players during the "break in the action" and I believe it was a noticeable difference when play resumed!

Thank you for your support last night. It was wonderful to see so many fans in attendance. Get ready for the drive to Elwood!

Friday schedule

All,

Friday is almost here! It is time for our players to gain their first test of the season vs. Guerin at 7:00. Before the game, the players will have pictures taken at HCS from 4-4:45 with our bus leaving at 5:00.

Players should plan on arriving at HCS at 3:30 to allow time to get organized. All parents should have received a picture packet at our parent meeting. If you did not receive one, your son should pick one up on Thursday and bring it to you to prepare for Friday. All players should show up on Friday with their picture packet prepared.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Go Big Blue, Coach Qualls

Thursday morning zone training

All,

We have an opportunity to have a zone training from 8-9 on Thursday am. This will allow our players to have a morning workout and allow our team to do more walk through activities on Thursday night and therefore have more recovery time before the scrimmage on Friday night.

Again, Zone training on Thursday am from 8-9. Players will NOT be in helmets and shoulders, just team shorts and shirts.

Love this team!

All,

Just a quick note...I really love this group of guys. Two a day practices are a joy to be around. The players are intent on learning and doing their job...all with an incredible attitude. We get time to laugh, enjoy life, and then get after it. Somewhat of the play hard/work hard mentality. Although this just doesn't seem like work.

Please continue to encourage the team as the honeymoon should be over by now...it just isn't! See you all on Friday night.

HEAT!

OH MY! It is hot...and that is an understatement. However, we, as a coaching staff, are cognizant of the impact heat can have on our athletes and are EXTREMELY proactive in our efforts to provide the safest environment possible.

To that end, please understand that we will take frequent hydration breaks (every 15 minutes) and all players understand that anytime player needs fluids, we will accommodate. Additionally, all players will weigh in and out each day. If a football players has a drastic change in weight he will NOT be allowed to return to practice until we are comfortable with his weight being regulated. We also have posted in our locker room a hydration reminder and remind our players at each practice the amount of fluid they should be taking on before and after each workout.

In short, we are serious about the health of our players and will make sure we keep the weather conditions as a high priority.

Go Big Blue, Coach Qualls

Saturday practice

All,

In light of the incredible practices our team has experienced this week, we will only be having a morning practice this Saturday (after our sleepover on Friday night). Players will be ready to be picked up at 12:00. Although no lunch will be provided we could certainly use help with a light breakfast. We are asking players to bring...something! In past years we have done this type of pot luck breakfast and it has worked out just fine. Here are suggestions...bunch of bananas or bag of apples, dozen bagels, doughnuts, gallon of juice or milk, a jar of peanut butter, a box of granola bars...you get the idea. Nothing that will set heavy in the stomach but rather just something light as we head to the field for our last workout of the week. If a parent wants to run the lead on this...that is fine too. If not, we can depend our our boys to make sure to pull this together. Items can be brought to practice and dropped off in the coaches office on Friday afternoon. If items need to be refrigerated, we can make arrangements for those items. If you would prefer to bring them on Saturday am, you could bring them by around 7:30 and drop them in the Fine Arts Foyer.

Thanks to all of you for your support this week during our first exciting week of practice!

Blessings, Coach Qualls

Parent meeting and pitch in reminder

As you know our football team has been working out diligently and are preparing for a very exciting season. I would like to invite you to our parent meeting this Friday night at 6:00 in the Auxiliary Gym. In our meeting we will have the opportunity to hear from our new Athletic Director (Mr. Jeff Freeman), meet the coaching staff, get an update on the schedule, receive the various required forms, and ensure our organizational structure for the season,. Yes a somewhat aggressive one hour schedule but I promise to keep our meeting moving along.

After our meeting you will have time to visit our football practice, connect with old friends and meet new ones. In addition, we will have a pitch in dinner that will begin around 7:30. We will be cooking hot dogs and hamburgers and would ask that each family provide the following:

Players with numbers 1-29 bring a salad
Players with numbers 30 – 59 bring a side dish
Players with numbers 60 – 89 bring a dessert
Each family should also plan on bringing their table setting and a liter of your favorite drink.

After the dinner the players will be remaining on campus for our leadership meeting (selection of captains), and some team building time . We plan to complete our night with the families, bid them goodnight and then settle in for our team sleep over. Players will want to make sure to bring a sleeping bag and pillow to campus to use for our sleep over. We will have activities planned, the coaches will be with the players all night, will have a light breakfast in the am, and then have a very spirited Saturday practice.

Thank you for your support of our football mission at HCS. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact any member of the coaching staff. Go Big Blue, Coach Qualls

physicals are a must!!!

All,

Well it is almost time! On Monday morning we begin the 2010 season. I am very excited about all of our players who have their physical on file with the Athletic Director. There are currently only a few players who do not currently have a physical on file and therefore will NOT be able to practice on Monday unless this is taken care of before practice. Players who have expressed a degree of interest in playing who DO NOT have a physical on file as of late Thursday are: John Bryant, Alex Cook, Victor Hamilton, Hunter Jones, Connor Reilly, Ryan Schrock, CJ Stein, and Anthony Warrum. Please help in contacting the players in case they do not read this blog spot.

If you already have the correct paperwork please be at school to have this taken care of in the athletic department EARLY on Monday. This means before practice officially begins at 7:30. Let's get our season off to a great start by having EVERYONE at practice on time. You should be ready ON THE FIELD when the whistle blows at 7:30.

Keep in mind that Physicals have nothing to do with the coaching staff so do not ask a coach to run them down for you. This is something that we have known about all summer, players have been asked multiple times to have these on file, so please, step up and have this completed.

See all of you on Monday morning! Go Big Blue! Coach Qualls

Heisman Trophy Winner - Danny Wuerffel - Visits Team

The Lord continues to bless our campus with tremendous opportunities. Through the generosity of one of our parents; tonight was a special Heritage Christian moment. We were blessed with a visit from Danny Wuerffel. Danny (who earned the Heisman Trophy in 1996 at Univ. of Florida and went on to a career in the NFL) was in town discussing his mission - Desire Street Ministries.

Danny then took the time to stop by Heritage Christian School and invest time with our football team. Danny encouraged our players in many ways and the blessing of hearing from a Heisman Trophy winner created a lasting memory. Being a Gator Nation fan, this was a highlight that was indescribable. The fact that Danny has such a solid foundation in the Lord, is a tremendous husband and father, and is incredibly humble, made this even a more meaningful event.

Again, We Are Blessed!

Final Football for July!

Eagle Fans!

We are heading down the home stretch before 2 a days begin on August 2. On Saturday we have our last 7-7 outreach of the summer vs. Indian Creek, South Bend Washington, and Ft. Wayne Harding. Players are to be here at 9:15 and the first game will start at 10:00. We will finish with our cookout at 12:00.

I want to thank all of you parents for helping out in the cooking of the food at these events. Vanessa (my wife) is blessed to have so many people that have stood by her side and been humble servants. You are an incredible witness to many players and families who are watching. Thank you for spreading the love of Jesus Christ.

Next week we will a regular Tuesday workout and then two days of a mini team camp. On Wednesday and Thursday, players will be here from 11:30 - 4:30 doing team building activities, learning more about the game of football, and growing together as a team.

Thank you for your support this summer. We will have our two a day schedule out to you soon as the athletic department continues to work through the full schedule for everyone.

Blessings,

One day at a time

Saturday was a great day for HCS athletics! Congratulations to our Varsity baseball time for their second consecutive state championship. We also enjoyed a very successful 7-7 vs. Rockville and Mt. Vernon. All of our players received many snaps and learned a few new wrinkles as we move through this exciting summer.

This Thursday we will welcome FW North, Mt. Vernon, and Speedway to HCS for our time on the field. We will continue our Tuesday and Thursday Zone training this week and will finish with this very competitive 7-7. This will be the last workout and 7-7 until July as we will honor the IHSAA moratorium week next week.

I would encourage each player to continue to work diligently on our Zone workouts. We are already seeing tremendous benefits and the heat will get turned up in July and August so the base we are building in June will pay maximum benefit in the months to come.

By this time in June, all players should have their physical on file in the athletic department and therefore issued their helmet and shoulder pads. By the second week of July we will be moved into the newly painted and re-cleaned locker room. The football team will be submitting to the athletic department our plan to ensure that we are tremendous stewards of our facilities...including the locker room. In the past few years the football team has taken tremendous pride in maintaining excellence with our facilities and this year will be no different. In the mean time, please continue to bring your helmet and shoulders back and forth to each workout opportunity.

Go Big Blue,

Coach Qualls

7-7 Saturday - earlier time

As a follow up to our conversation at the last two practices....

In honor of the State Baseball Championship starting at 1:00 we will begin our 7-7 at 9:00 am. The other schools are willing to come in early so we are set to go. Please plan on being there by at least 8:30 so that we can make sure we start on time. We will play with Mt. Vernon, Rockville and TC Howe.

Please make sure to bring helmet and shoulders and be ready to Rock!!!!

Go Big Blue...Coach Q

PS>>>>Leaders....contact your team mates and make sure they are ready to be at school at 8:30...ANYONE AND EVERYONE! With the Baseball team out and the Basketball team out also, we are short on players. This is a great time for younger players to get some reps!

Colts 7-7 - Final Four!

All,

Saturday was an incredible day at the Colts 7-7. We went undefeated in pool play and ended up in the championship round and the final four. We lost the semi final game by one touchdown to Columbus East and then to Ritter in the consolation game. We ended the game with the ball on the one yard line and lost by 3 points.

However we only had 11 players (all other teams had 15) and a day that started at 8:30 at the Colts complex ended at 5:30 with us getting our pictures taken by the Colts (see below) and awarded our certificate for finishing in the Final Four and receiving a check for the football program for $500.00. Of the 11, we had two freshman, two seniors, three players who split time on one side of the ball, so in essence, we only played with 8 players, both ways, all day!!!!

This was a big day for the 11 warriors. You would have been proud of these players who defeated some big time schools...West Lafayette, Paoli, Monrovia, South Bend Washington...along the way teams like Evansville Memorial, Portage, FW Dwenger, FW Luers, Fishers, New Palestine, Rensellear Central, Southport, Guerin all fell by the wayside as we moved on to the Final Four. The athleticism of the larger schools was incredible but somehow our boys "found a way" each game to win. Our boys had heart and chemistry. They fought some incredible battles in tremendous heat.

We were 10 points away (one TD and one interception) away from going to Tampa Bay for the national tournament. This is our best finish in the four years we have been invited to be in the tournament. The attached picture says a thousand words. Just look at the smiles at the end of the day.

What a day!

Thursday 7-7 this week

We are still waiting on schools to confirm in regard to our Thursday night 7-7. Typically, schools call with their final number of players so we know how much food to prepare, however it is not working at this time. We know that New Albany has pulled out for financial reasons and we still have two schools that have not contacted us this week with final confirmation.

I apologize for this inconvenience. If we do not have a 7-7, we will be taking a few players to Carmel HS on Thursday night to play some 7-7 at their place. If this does happen, some younger players will remain here to get more reps and work on their game, while the older players will be going to Carmel to finish our practice.

Either way, our players are to be here at the regular time for workouts.

As always, if you have questions, please let me know.

equipment

All,

Tonight we passed out equipment to 37 players. We have another 23 players who will be getting their equipment later in the summer. Remember that all players must either have their physicals, or appointments made, to receive their helmet and shoulder pads.

We will continue to shuffle equipment around to make sure that each player has the best equipment that we have on hand. If your son feels his equipment does not fit properly...for any reason, please have him see me. I tried to fit each player in the appropriate gear and understand it may take a few practices for them to feel solid in their pads. That is one of the reasons we do not have contact in our pads for a few workouts to allow the players to settle into the pads.

Also, players signed for their equipment and are responsible for the equipment. That means they will be bringing it back and forth with them each time to practice. Replacement helmet cost are 250.00 and shoulder pads are replaced at 150.00. They have been asked to place their name on the equipment to make sure they know which one belongs to them. This will be temporary until we get their number issued to stick on the items.

The mouthpiece is the responsibility of the player. I would suggest doing this immediately. Mouthpieces run in a large range from 1.00 to a custom fit from a dentist for much, much more. There are also good options that can be purchased over the counter with trade names such as "Shock Doctor". I would recommend purchasing a mouth piece that is comfortable for your son, allows for the most protection (mouth and secondary concussion prevention) and is within your/his budget.

We will be issuing practice pants and additional pads the last week of the summer. Please let me know if you have any questions.

IU Update for Saturday

As of Tuesday only nine players were going to be available for the IU tournament...therefore, we will not be competing this weekend at IU. Of the nine, we did not have the right assortment of defense or enough subs in for offense. With SAT being Saturday, the baseball regional, the Mission to Mexico, and other previously arrangements, we just don't have the fire power to make this happen this year. Trying to participate in a tournament of this magnitude, with a handful of players, could set us up for injuries that are not needed at this time of the year.

We WILL be going to the Colts tournament as this tournament has less games and is much closer for us.

We will be announcing who will be on the 15 player tournament roster for the Colts tournament on Thursday.

Please make sure to continue to check the blogspot for updated information on the summer program.

2010 Team Ready to Roll

The 2010 team started workouts on Tuesday and by all indications are prepared to "Find A Way"! 48 players were available to workout on Tuesday and participated in our Hoffacker Zone training, strength training, and 7-7 work. Leadership, encouragement, and enthusiasm were the flavors of the day!

Keep in mind that all players must have a physical on file to receive equipment this summer. A new physical (dated after May 1) must be on file in the Athletic Department. Players who have a physical scheduled can email me and let me know the date and you can receive equipment.

I am looking forward to an awesome summer with our new team!

Athletic Director Interim Structure

Athletic Department Transition Update
May 7, 2010

As a follow up to the announcement of the change in Athletic Director for Heritage , I want to provide an update on the day to day and interim structure for the remainder of May for the Athletic Department. I have met with Drew Riddick and Michelle York to determine a workable and manageable plan for handling the many responsibilities of the athletic department, as we work to hire a new Athletic Director. Michelle will be the point person for the Athletic Department. She is working directly with Drew to transition key information related to the High School programs and overarching departmental responsibilities. Drew will be available via email and phone for questions during the transition, but please copy Michelle on all emails. Drew will be available onsite on a limited basis at Heritage in May and June.

To address the need for additional support and onsite assistance during this interim period, Elizabeth Allen will be working in the Athletic Department through the end of the school year. Elizabeth will be handling most of the day to day needs of the Middle School athletic programs and working out of Drew’s office. She will also be helping to finalize the revised Athletic Handbook and the Athlete and Parent Code of Conduct.

For athletic event game day/night management, additional support will be provided by various Heritage personnel. The key people will be Michelle, Sherman and Sandy.
We will continue to communicate and update you as we move through the next few weeks on the progress of the Athletic Director search and on any changes or modifications to the interim structure.

Thank you for your continued prayers and support of HCS athletics and the athletic staff during this transition period.
Please contact me with any questions.

Sincerely,

Gary Boram
Interim Operations Administrator and
Director of Business and Finance

Summer Workout Schedule Announced!

HERITAGE CHRISTIAN FOOTBALL - SUMMER 2010 - “FIND A WAY”

This is the beginning of the “Find A Way” journey 2010. This year we will be using “Find A Way” as our team theme which should bring about great discussion within our team, opponents, and the media. I look forward to unwrapping all God has planned for us and the various ways we will find to praise His name over the next seven months.

You will notice this year that our summer workout times and dates have changed. I have done this to allow players to have jobs during the day and to limit the number of trips that you will need to take to campus over the summer. While we are together we will apply ourselves to the task at hand but still leave much time for players to enjoy the summer.

Below I have detailed each week during the summer, however, the general workout (known as "The Zone" times are: every Tuesday and Thursday 3:30 – 7:00 beginning in June.

Prior to the start of our official workout dates each football player will receive a complete athletic assessment. On Monday May 17th and Tuesday 18th from 12:00-3:00 all football players 9-12 will be tested by Hoffacker Fitness. This fitness assessment will help to determine the exact workout that you will need for the summer to allow for the optimization of our summer time together. All players will need to stop by the Middle School office and sign up for a time for one of these two days. THIS IS MANDATORY FOR ALL ATHLETES AND SPECIFICALLY FOR ALL FOOTBALL PLAYERS. You must sign up of for a time by 12:00 on May 9th.

Again, if you plan on playing football you must sign up for a time on May 17th and 18th. The testing will only take 15 minutes but you will need to be there 15 minutes before your time to get all the appropriate paperwork filed and to be ready to start on time. This is the first step of our summer training program. Please sign up and be on time.

We will also be hosting a youth camp the first week that school is out on May 24, 25, 26, 27 (Monday – Thursday) from 8-11:30. You are expected to be there to help with the camp. The camp activity for you is three fold: 1) to begin to build unity in our team, 2) to teach correct technique to the young players in blocking and tackling, 3) and most importantly to be Godly examples for our young players. Of course, you will receive SALT hours for the camp work.

Our summer expectation for a HCS football player is very simple: if you are in town – be here…no exceptions! Our summer program in vital for you to be in the best condition possible to prevent injury and optimize your success.

Also, to assist us in making sure everyone has a current physical on file for the upcoming season: You MUST have a new physical on file by the first week of June to be issued a helmet and shoulder pads for the summer workout. This means your physical MUST be completed after May 1st to be good for the following school year.

I am excited about our new conditioning program for the summer and our partners Hoffacker Fitness. If we follow "The Zone" plan we will be the best conditioned team in Indiana and will fully be prepared for the task at hand during the 2010 season. During our summer "Zone" time (3:30 – 7:00) on Tuesday and Thursday, we will be doing our Hoffacker Training (Speed, Agility, Quickness), lifting (bench, squat, clean and aux), chalk talk to teach our offense/defense and special teams, and then helmet and shoulder pad time to gain fundamental basics! This will be an action packed time and you should “find a way” to be there every session. The following is a layout of our summer. We will FIND A WAY!

Let me know if you have questions. FIND A WAY, Coach Qualls

Summer Workouts

Ready to "Find A Way"!!!

I continue to get excited about the upcoming season and for the Lord to reveal all he has planned for us. As the spring winds down, many of our players are involved in the SOS camps around Indianapolis and are honing their skills in the weight room and after school gaining speed, agility and quickness.

In the next few days our Athletic Department should be announcing our new workout times for this upcoming summer. At that time I will also be able to announce our 7-7 and camp opportunities for this summer. This new format will be a "less is more" approach. Our goal is to provide a summer training program that will be one of the finest in the state and yet allow players the opportunity to enjoy their summer and pursue many other ministry opportunities.

Stay tuned! Our blog is now back up an running and you will receive many updates throughout the summer!

Go Big Blue,

Coach Qualls
